Mudflat walking organisations save seals

Luckily, it can also go differently: During the last week, eight seals were brought in by various mudflat walkers’ organisations. On June 16th, (the same day that a guide from the ‘Free Mudwalkers’ left a baby seal to fend for itself) mudflat walker Tjaard van Hoorn brought two seal babies to the SRRC and on June 22nd, two baby seals were rescued by guides from Dijkstra’s wadlooptochten. Click on “read more” to see in a photo report how guides Gerrit, Menno and Gerritjan and their fellow walkers rescue two young animals from the mud and bring them to safety, from where they were taken to the SRRC in travel baskets.
Lenie ’t Hart: “Luckily, all mudflat walking guides really love the mudflats and their inhabitants. It is a real exception when someone leaves an animal to fend for itself. All the other mudflat walking organisations take responsibility for an animal in need.”
