Thanks to a donation from a supplier, the SRRC has its own mobile x-ray machine, which can be put into action throughout the rehabilitation centre. With the aid of this machine, many of the seals" internal problems can be diagnosed. With the help of an X-ray bone fractures (fractured jaws or even a broken back, for instance), but also internal inflammations (inflammation of the joints or pneumonia), strange objects, which a seal may have swallowed (fishhooks) and stomach and intestinal problems, can be diagnosed
The vet is responsible for making X-rays and must see to protective measures, such as wearing protective clothing and individual radiation badges. These are checked by the TNO. The vet also examines the X-rays. Working procedures regarding X-raying is recorded in a protocol.
