On March 26, 2004, the SRRC was the first animal rehabilitation centre to be awarded the ISO 9001-2000 quality certificate. During the two years of preparation for the ISO-certification, all procedures and protocols regarding seal-rehabilitation were carefully scrutinised. Obviously, the emphasis of the ISO-quality certification was on seal-care. ISO certification means that all processes within an organisation are recognisable and transparent, and these processes are continually being subjected to quality control.
The ISO certification is very important to the SRRC, because it gives an indication of the professionalism of the organisation and the precision with which the SRRC-employees adhere to the protocols. The protocols are devised by independent and specialised scientists. ISO certification shows that the SRRC as animal rehabilitation centre demand the best. We hope to be set a standard for other animal rehabilitation centres worldwide.
Since 2000, the SRRC has been awarded the CBF-quality mark for charities (CBF is the central bureau for fundraising), which guarantees that donations will be used wisely. The ISO-certification provides a second measuring tool with which the SRRC"s work can be judged.
