Rare albino seal at the SRRC
Appeal: Who will adopt and name him?
A sick albino seal was found on the beach in Vlieland yesterday. Thanks to the help of the islanders and our voluntary Seal First Aid team, the weakened animal was saved and brought to the SRRC, where, in the next couple of weeks it will be able to regain its strength.

Albino seals are rare. They lack pigmentation and therefore have an almost white fur and red eyes. The seal from Vlieland is the sixth albino seal in almost 40 years. The last time the SRRC rehabilitated an albino seal was in 2000. Albino seals are not necessarily weaker than other seals. They can, however, be sensitive to bright sunlight.
The albino seal is a young seal born this year and is about four months old. He is very sick due to lungworm infection. The SRRC is giving it all the treatment it needs. The only thing is that the animal still has not been named. The SRRC is appealing to people to adopt him. The highest bidder gets to name him and will be present when, in a couple of months, we hope to release him. The SRRC is entirely dependent on donations and the fish to feed this seal alone costs 5 Euros a day.
Do we have any offers?
