Hooded Seal Tim on his way home
Friday, September 17th, the young hooded seal, Tim, was flown to GDF Suez’s production platform F3-b by a CHC Helicopter. From the platform, the travel basket with the seal was lowered down to water level and opened so that Tim could start his journey back to the Arctic Ocean. Thanks to the great help of the CHC Helicopter’s crew and the F3-b, everything went like clockwork.

The young hooded seal had been found on September 1st, deadly tired above Rottum. Luckily, Tim immediately started feeding himself and he quickly got better and gained weight. Thanks to the help of GDF Suez (owner of the most Northern platform, production platform F3-b) and CHC Helicopters a flight was organized on September 17th to take Tim as far as possible on his journey back to his habitat in the Arctic Ocean.

With a special travel basket, which could be opened from a distance, Tim travelled, supervised by care-coordinator Marcel Siegers, in a SRRC car to Den Helder. There, Tim was transferred to a helicopter, belonging to CHC Helicopters, and was flown by pilots Jaap-Erik Huizing and Dennis Koedijk for an hour to the production platform.

With the help of the F3-b crew the travel basket was lowered on long ropes. Then, the lid could be opened and Tim could begin his long journey.

Past reports have taught us that a hooded seal will be able to find its way back from there. A couple of years ago, a hooded seal, released by us, was later spotted by a biologist in Greenland. Our Hercule had arrived there after a journey of a couple of weeks. We hope that Tim will follow in his tracks.
