Help stop cruelty to animals
How can we stop that “scientists, who don’t love animals,” are allowed to carry out completely pointless experiments on seals?
Take this mother seal, for instance. She has a transmitter the size of a brick attached crookedly to the back of her neck and she has a baby. That transmitter was stuck on to her while she was pregnant.

Now, she is only ever half out of the water; she never really suns herself completely: If she tries to lie on her side or her back she feels that strange thing which scares her.
Will she be able to nurse her young properly?
While I am observing her through my binoculars, I see her having a huge row with another seal, all the while, the pup is swimming in between them and crying.

Later, I see the transmitter-mum again, but now she is without her young.
She continues to be alone in the days that follow.

Why do the scientists stick these bricks (seriously outdated transmitters) on the backs of so many seals, while there has long been scientific evidence to prove that a seal with a transmitter displays uncharacteristic behaviour?
With such research methods it is impossible to claim that “seals in the Dollard are displaying strange behaviour” due to (for instance) industrial influences, because they are already behaving strangely because of the transmitter.

How can we stop these short-sighted, so-called scientific methods?
Who will help us?
The government meanwhile, has given permission again for more capturing (so more stress), in order to needlessly torture even more seals for months on end.
Maybe, the new parliament or the new cabinet will pay more attention to the problems caused by this kind of research.
The youth news programme ‘Jeugdjournaal’ claims that youngsters have put “stopping animal cruelty” number one on their list of priorities in their “debate” with the party leaders.
They are a prime example.
We can use that.
Have you got any idea how we can stop this “transmitter torture”?
