SRRC happy with Essent / RWE’s support

On Friday, April 16th, Lenie ’t Hart was given a check worth no less than 30.000 Euros for the SRRC in Pieterburen, by Dig Istha, Essent’s director of Corporate Affairs.

Dig Istha and a happy Lenie
It was a great surprise and an unexpected end to a visit. The workers of Essent’s Corporate Affairs department had visited the new development of the RWE coal-fired power station in Eemshaven last Thursday and SRRC Lenie ‘t Hart on Friday morning. At the end of the visit, on behalf of Essent/RWE, Dig Istha presented the elated Lenie with a check of 30.000 Euros.

Cherish the environment

Dig Istha explained the materialization of Essent’s support of the SRRC. “We are building a large coal/biomass fired power station on the Wadden Sea coast. Every which way you look at it, those are drastic activities. We are trying our best to keep the consequences for fauna and flora as limited as possible. We are in close consultation with the SRRC and are happy about that cooperation.”

Good Neighbours

“The license to operate is not total for Essent with just obtaining the necessary permits. We also strive to be good neighbours and want to give something back to the environment. We are working on a covenant with nature conservation groups. The aim is to invest money and expertise in productive and established initiatives. The SRRC in Pieterburen is a good example of this.”

Hard Times

Lenie ‘t Hart was clearly happy with this ‘material proof’ of Essent en RWE’s pursuit. “At the moment we can use all donations we can get. Everyone is having a rough time and so are we. And with us, I especially mean those beautiful seals. This money will probably go to research into the worrying lung complaints momentarily affecting the seals. But we could also buy them 30.000 kilos of herring.” What it will be finally spent on is entirely up to Lenie and her enthusiastic co-workers. Lenie ended her speech with the words: “We are every bit as happy with this positive cooperation with Essent/RWE as they are with us. Only with good deliberation and positive cooperation will it be possible to keep the Wadden Sea a beautiful area that everyone can enjoy and where seals have a good chance of a healthy life!”
