‘NL does’ at the SRRC

Saturday, March 20th, the SRRC participated in the Netherlands’ largest volunteer campaign: NL does. An enthusiastic team from HanzeConnect in Groningen had volunteered to come and help get the SRRC ready for spring. It has been a long winter in which we had a constant stream of critically ill seals to care for. Naturally, there were lots of jobs that HanzeConnect could help us with!

After introductions and a guided tour of the SRRC, teams were formed for different jobs. Soon, a team was found willing to scrub the outdoor pools. The same morning, three seals had been released, leaving the outdoor pool empty. A perfect opportunity to give the sides of the pool a good scrub!

The second team threw themselves into preparing the pick-nick tables for a paintjob. This seemed an easy job, but turned out to be the most straining and time consuming…

The technical team began to disassemble the emergency accommodation. This shed had been used as emergency accommodation for many sick seals. Now the number of sick seals is luckily getting less, this accommodation is no longer needed. It will be replaced by a more structural solution.

Thanks to sponsoring by Peizerweg’s branches of Gamma and Tuinland, The painting team was able to give the canteen a fresh lick of paint.

Apart from that, the outdoor area was cheered up with several new flower boxes with cheerful and colourful plants. By the end of the afternoon, the volunteers could return home tired but satisfied. We would like to thank the HanzeConnect employees very much for their help!
