National Postcode Lottery saves sick seals

When the need is greatest, help sometimes appears from an unexpected corner. That certainly happened last Thursday when Lenie ‘t Hart and fellow-director Daniella van Gennep heard at the Goed Geld Gala 2010 (Good Money Gala) that the National Postcode Lottery was awarding the SRRC the sum of one million Euros. They were so happy! With this fantastic sum the SRRC will be able to do so much more for the many dozens of seals that are still being found every day.

Thursday, February 4th, the annual meeting took place for the beneficiaries of the National Postcode Lottery in the National Museum Van Speelklok tot Pierement. At this festive Good Money Gala 2010, the National Postcode Lottery announced donations to 75 charities out of the revenues over 2009. When Lenie ‘t Hart and Daniella van Gennep heard that they were being awarded an amount of one million Euros for seal care, they could not believe their luck. “The seals are happy with you!” Lenie called to the organizers. And a little later, when she stood amidst other beneficiary charities talking over events, she said: “We are so happy with the fantastic gift from the National Postcode Lottery. Naturally, it has two sides, because it would be even better if the seals could fend for themselves. But we, people, have caused this situation for the seals, and it is great that two and a half million people participating in the National Postcode Lottery have made it possible for us to be supported in our work for the seals.”

And Boudewijn Poelman, National Postcode Lottery’s director, added: “Fifty percent of National Postcode Lottery’s gross revenue is meant for projects in society. This way, society always wins. In 2009, a record breaking amount of 256 million Euros is divided over 75 charities.”

Anyway, the more than 200 seals, presently at the SRRC all received an extra herring, because there was something to celebrate!
