Respite for the San Diego seals

Things are looking good for the seal colony that was threatened with removal from a beach near San Diego. Many private persons and organisations – under which the SRRC – have appealed to governor Schwarzenegger. He has now signed a law allowing San Diego to decide about the use of the beach.
Photo: Willem WilstraIn anticipation of that decision, the order to try and scare away the seals with the noise of barking dogs has been postponed for at least three months. Because a large majority of the inhabitants would like to keep seeing the seals on the beach, many of the people involved expect that it will be decided to allow the seals to stay indefinitely. However, much lobbying will still be necessary. Lenie too will be contacting governor Schwarzenegger again.
