Art project at the SRRC

This summer, a unique art project is being held at the SRRC. Johanna and Eva, two German students from the Bremen Art School, will be here doing voluntary work until July 29th. They will be holding arts and crafts workshops for all children visiting the SRRC’s visitor centre.
Johanna and Eva
Children will be able to participate in drawing, painting, making seals out of clay and having their face painted like a seal. With this project we also want to highlight the problem of fishnets that are left in the sea. Seals are often brought to the SRRC with injuries caused by roaming fishnets. Luckily, we were able to release seal Pirke, who is now healthy again, last weekend. He came to us with deep cuts in his neck.

At the back of the SRRC, there is a huge mountain of fishnets, which have been collected with the help of fishermen. With the help of the two students, we will now be using these nets in a positive manner, allowing the children to use pieces of the nets to make bags and brooches. There will be enough to see and do at the SRRC. Another reason to stop by this summer!
