Terschelling, 29 April 2009. Croco was found on Terschelling a couple of months ago. He has become quite well known because he swallowed a piece of hose during feeding. How have things gone for him since then?
After consultation with doctor Spoelstra, gastroenterologist of the MCL Leeuwarden, it was decided to remove the hose from the seal using endoscopy. The operation took place in the SRRC ambulance, while it was parked in front of the MCL Leeuwarden. Naturally, this unusual procedure got much media attention.

Meanwhile, Croco made a full recovery and, by the end of April, was ready to be released– along with four other seals – with the Noordvaarder on Terschelling, where he was found. Extra reason for celebration was that he was released on Hessel Wiegman’s birthday, the man who had found him in the first place.
