Last Wednesday, unfortunately, he outsmarted us again. Despite SRRC workers’ great efforts and fantastic support from people on the spot, such as the province of Friesland, Seppe was able to pass the net that was stretched across the Tsjonger at Mildam. So, he was able to swim in the direction of the Tjeukemeer (a Frisian lake). The following day, the harbor master of Stavoren reported that a seal had been seen in the basin of the outer harbor, which is actually part of the IJsselmeer (Lake IJssel). Once in the IJsselmeer, Seppe will most certainly be able to find his way back to the Wadden Sea. That is good, because even though Seppe is very able to survive in inland waters, he is better off in his natural habitat, which is the sea. There, he will find the ideal seal-foods and will meet other seals. Furthermore, he will be able to lie out on the sandbanks and sun himself which is beneficial for his fur and moulting.
