For a whole day now we have had no news regarding the escaped seals. After Workum one was spotted in Hindeloopen, swimming southwards. The other has been last seen near Zoutkamp. That was on Thursday. After that, it has stayed horridly quiet.
Saturday afternoon a report came in from Sneek (actually Offingawier, nr 8 on the map) and naturally this was followed by the remark: “This seal is swimming the elfstedentocht (English translation: "Journey of Eleven Cities")!” Our employees were at the spot within half an hour, but did not see the seal. From his spot near the pavilion he would have been able to swim in many different directions.
If anyone has been able to take photographs of either of the seals, please send them to us. We will be able to see whether it is Seppe or Emma.

Being left in uncertainty for a whole week is long. It is possible that the seal which was last seen in Zoutkamp has passed through the Lauwersmeer and swam into the Wadden Sea. But the seal that is swimming through Friesland is still underway. Luckily, many people call us when a seal is spotted swimming somewhere. This weekend we received sightings from Roozendaal (a Carnival joke...) Kamperland, Schoorl, Katwijk, Delfzijl and Lauwersoog. Many reports are from the North Sea coast, but “our” seals will not have reached that far yet...
