The number of seals in Scotland has diminished considerably in recent years. In some places the population has even halved in the last six years. Scientists have not been able to find a concurrent reason for this dramatic decrease. Read the whole article on http://www.guardian.co.uk/.
Here, in the Wadden Sea, the seals are still increasing in numbers. The fact that the SRRC rehabilitates around 250 seals a year and releases them in healthy condition, has certainly helped this increase. However, since a couple of years, we have noticed a strong increase in sick seals at the SRRC. The SRRC has been researching seal illness and stranding for years now.
