This weekend, a young seal was found in Zeeland that is the spitting image of our jet black Lola, who came to the SRRC two years ago. The young animal is a male named Black Jack. It is very rare for a seal with this abnormality (melanism, as opposed to albinism) to be born: Black Lola was the second case in 35 years. Therefore, the SRRC is going to research whether there is any resemblance in Black Jack and Black Lola’s DNA. Black Lola, who is often spotted on the sandbanks around Vlieland and Terschelling, is now two years old and still too young to have pups. It would be interesting to know whether this animal has the same father and/or mother.

Black Lola became the favourite of many visitors two years ago. Will Black Jack also become a crowd-pleaser? In any case, for the next couple of months he can be seen at the SRRC in Pieterburen. Everyone is welcome there daily between 9:00 and 6:00 o’clock.
