Just before Christmas our seal first-aid team in Zeeland saved a young grey seal. The animal practically got first-aid under a Christmas tree in a Groenrijk-store by seal first-aider Jaap van der Hiele, simply because it was close by. She then weighed a mere 15 kilos and was very weak. The Groenrijk employees felt so sympathetic towards the exhausted animal that they adopted the seal. She was named after one of the employees: Eefje. The seal was quickly transported to the SRRC in Pieterburen, where she was cared for with love and attention.
Eefje, together with her colleague John, was the lucky one allowed to release the animal, Eefje, who, in the mean time, had regained her strengths (she now weighs 50 kilos). It was a beautiful day with a clear blue sky and lots of sunshine. Was that the reason for the tears in Groenrijk’s Eefje’s eyes?
