First baby seals released this year

Terschelling 1
Already, the first fifteen baby seals have been released this year. Fortunately, the rehabilitated baby seals grow quickly at the SRRC. Fifteen of them had grown so much that they were already able to look after themselves. During the last couple of days, they were set free from Terschelling’s beach ‘the Noordvaarder’ , very near the sandbanks they were born on in December.

Back then, many of the baby seals (often only three or four days old) lost their mother in the storm and high tides. Now they are independent, thanks to lots of fish and good care. They will be able to grow old in the Wadden Sea, perhaps even reaching the old age of 40 years. We hope they will have a bright future in a clean Wadden Sea and a North Sea full of fish.
