Three presentations by SRRC researchers at sea mammal conference

17th Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine MammalsDuring the "17th Biennial Conference on the Biology of Marine Mammals", the most important conference concerning sea mammals, which is being held in Cape town (South Africa) this year, from November 29 until December 3rd, three SRRC researchers will be presenting the results of their studies. Biologist Nynke Osinga will be presenting a poster on her research into the by-catch of porpoises, Mr. dr. Pieter 't Hart is presenting a poster about the history of the seal hunt in the Netherlands, for which he was awarded a PhD in April this year and, with an oral presentation, biologist Anja Hazekamp will discuss the results of the research into the influence of transmitters on the behaviour of seals. This last study was commissioned by the SRRC and carried out by the independent Dutch-German research institute FlowMotion and the SRRC.

The SRRC strives to exchange knowledge about sea mammals and their problems with as many researchers worldwide as possible. This is also in the interest of the seals in the Wadden Sea and their situation.

More information about the conference can be found on www.smmconference2007.org. Those interested can download the poster presentations 'Harbour porpoises (Phocoena phocoena) and fisheries in the Dutch North Sea' and 'Seal hunting in the Netherlands, 1591-1962' here.
