Renske Jeuken from group eight of the St. Martinusschool in Millingen aan de Rijn had a fun idea to celebrate the opening of the new school building: by adopting a seal. She got the entire school involved (more than 600 kids). She held talks in all classes, from the pre-schoolers to the children of group 8, and she had extensive e-mail communication with Lenie ’t Hart and the SRRC workers.

Lenie was so thrilled with the project that she went to Millingen herself to tell the children more about the seals and to accept a check from Renske of €500,--.

Renkse also organized a naming competition and a little boy thought of the name ‘Achilles’ (also a fighter), and so Lenie brought them an adoption certificate for a seal with that name.

She said that Achilles could be seen via the web cam in quarantine room 7. All the children naturally checked up on ‘their’ seal directly afterwards.
