The first seals, which were brought to the SRRC as babies during the summer, have been released this week.
Among them was Rijkje; the first baby to be brought to the SRRC in May, when she still had her premature white fur. When she was released by her namesake, she had grown, just like the other seals, into a big, healthy, young seal, that is definitely going to be able to survive in the wild.
Since Rijkje was brought in, one hundred seals have been brought to the SRRC; 85 of which were babies. That almost topped the numbers of the preceding years three times over. The likely reason for this is the many storms during the birthing-season this year.
