Two more net victims

Last weekend our seal first-aid worker on Vlieland found an adult grey seal whose head had been badly cut up by fine fishing-wire and pieces of net. The animal was quickly brought to Pieterburen, where it was freed from the torturous fish nets. He is now convalescing in one of the outdoor pools.

On Monday he was joined by a fellow net-victim; a grey seal of about one year old which was found on the Noordvaarder (Terschelling) by Hessel Wiegman and was caught up in over 11 kilo’s of heavy duty net-material. The animal was carefully freed from the burden of the nets and is now thankfully swimming around in our pool.

The seals will be able to return back to sea, as soon as the wounds have healed.
