The last days have been very hectic. Every day, stranded baby seals have been brought in. They arrive mostly from Terschelling, but also from Vlieland, Ameland and even from Schiermonnikoog. In total, SRRC Lenie ‘t Hart has received more than 80 baby seals and, possibly more worrying, dozens of very ill common seals. The total amount of seals in rehabilitation at the SRRC has reached 176 (a sad record-number) and is rising every day…
Today (Friday, January 5th) a second large tent was set up in Pieterburen for the rehabilitation of grey seal babies. Thanks to the wonderful support of tent-builders Van Kammen from Oosternijkerk (call in the morning and it is pitched by the afternoon) we are able to give all the stranded babies a safe roof over their heads. You can take a look in the winter pavilion by clicking on our web cam 4.

We have had truly heart-warming reactions: many people have made extra donations, people are adopting a seal, sending towels or are volunteering to cook or clean.
Today seals arrived from Vlieland (3), Terschelling (2) and a sick adult female grey seal from Wijk aan Zee.
The SRRC is being confronted with many extra expenses. For instance, for extra staff (every day we need two teams of twenty people), extra fish, extra medicines, extra transport costs, extra facilities etc. All these costs have been estimated at over € 100.000,= so far. Therefore, the SRRC is urgently looking for extra money.
You could help us with that:
- For instance, by adopting one of the storm victims,
- By becoming a SRRC supporter,
- By donating some money to giro-number 8020
- Or, by donating your old towels.
For any one of these things, we thank you on behalf of the seals!
