This week, this year’s last rehabilitated seals have been released into the Wadden Sea. On thursday, December 28th, six common seals regained their freedom on the beach of Ameland and on friday, three grey seals got their freedom back on Vlieland. The last group included ‘Tante’, a large mature seal who had been brought to the SRRC critically ill. She too has now fully recovered. SRRC Lenie ’t Hart has been able to release 76 common and 71 grey rehabilitated seals this year, thanks to the efforts of all the SRRC workers and the help of our supporters.
This is a fantastic result for which we would like to thank everyone who was involved!
Momentarily, we have 58 common seals and 12 grey seals in rehabilitation. They will stay with us during over the new year and will be released next year.
