For a while now, the SRRC has been looking into the possibilities of improving and making the accommodation more efficient. During the peak moments in autumn, when many sick seals are brought in and in winter, when the grey seal pups come in, we desperately need more room.
After charting the possibilities for improving our current facilities, we realised that these improvements still weren’t satisfying. So, we sat down to put on paper what the ideal SRRC would look like. Soon it became clear that it would be very difficult to actualise our ideal centre on the current site, due to restrictive regulations and lack of space. At the end of the day, building a whole new centre is cheaper than renovating the current centre. We have asked the local authorities to look for a different site in Pieterburen that meets our requirements. At the same time, we are looking outside the district to see who else likes seals and who else is willing to help us, together with our other financial supporters, to build the ideal SRRC.
